Faith in Action

How Your Faith Community Can Become Involved With Habitat for Humanity Greater Boston

One of the most appealing aspects of working with Habitat for Humanity is that building a house provides tangible opportunity to live out your faith. Giving your time and talents makes faith come alive. Strong feelings of community develop as people work together to plan and build a Habitat house, new friendships are created within the congregation and within the community. When the house is finished volunteers and homeowners feel a great sense of pride and connection with one another.

Habitat for Humanity was founded on the Christian principles of responding tangibly to people in need. As Jonathan Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity International, states in his book Creating a Habitat for Humanity, “…the Jewish faith teaches followers to repair the world, and followers of other faiths are urged to care for the poor as well. For some people compassionate response is not a matter of faith. It is simply the right thing to do, or it is part of the overall mind-set of an individual.”

We welcome and encourage all people to join us in our work to eliminate poverty housing from the world.
