Volunteer Opportunities

Individual volunteers can help by:

• Building at one of our construction sites
• Helping out in our office a few times a year (email the Volunteer Coordinator if you'd like to be contacted when we need office volunteers).
• Joining a committee of interest and helping with family selection, homeowner education classes, site selection, or Newton fundraising and events.

Mandatory Orientation Session

All Habitat volunteers are required to attend a volunteer orientation. The one-hour session covers Habitat Greater Boston's history, our mission, our past work, and our current projects. We give a brief presentation on construction safety, and we walk you through how to start signing up for construction build days. All construction volunteers must be at least 16 years old, and every two 16 or 17 year olds need to be accompanied by an adult chaperone.

If you have a group of friends or coworkers who would like to volunteer together and some members can't attend an orientation, consider group volunteering.

Registration: Complete an orientation registration form to sign-up for an orientation session date that works with your schedule. You will receive a reminder email a week before your session.

Location: All orientation sessions take place at the Habitat Greater Boston Office located at 240 Commercial Street in Boston on the 4th floor. The session lasts for about an hour; most sessions start at 6pm. Click here for directions and a map to our office.

Signing up for Build Days

Once you have registered for an orientation, you can start signing up for build days that fall after that orientation date. Please sign up for no more than one build day per site per month so that we can get as many volunteers out to the sites as possible.

1. Pick a site where you want to volunteer. You can learn more about each site on our projects page.
2. Check out our online calendars and click on a day that says we need individual volunteers. You will be instructed to email your build day request to volunteers@habitatboston.org . You will receive a confirmation within 24 hours.
